President’s Message

A Message from our President

I would like to welcome everyone to the 2024-2025 athletics season at Wollongong City Little Athletics Club.  I am this season’s president, Stephanie Hopper, and I look forward to seeing our returning families, as well as meeting some new athletes and families this season.

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our new committee members to the 2024-2025 season.  It’s always great to see some new faces in the committee and we appreciate you coming on board with your contributions and assistance.  To our outgoing committee members, thank you for all your hard work and dedication during the 2023-2024 season, it is very much appreciated.

Our committee volunteer their time each season to keep our club continually running successfully and we acknowledge the commitment given with help and support where needed.  Volunteering isn’t for everyone, but it is very rewarding, and our committee kids love to hang out regularly at the track and away from the track.  If you feel you’d like to be involved more and wish to learn about or possibly take on a committee role in the future, do not hesitate to reach out to one of our committee members or tap me on the shoulder on a club night, I would be more than happy to discuss your interests.

The club recognises and farewells our ‘aged out’ U17 athletes from last season.  They have contributed to our club in competition as well as being fantastic role models for our younger members.  We wish them every success for their future endeavors.

Being involved in the athletics community for over 11 years as a parent and volunteer has given me the opportunity to gain so much knowledge (and still learning) and also gain some incredible friendships.  I have been able to watch my 2 girls grow in the sport that they love and see them create their own friendships, reach their goals and make some memories.  It really motivates me to encourage our athletes to have lots of fun, no matter if it’s a competition night or a State Championship event, and to be surrounded by a family friendly, inclusive environment within our club.

There will be some new opportunities for athletes this season as we are looking to introduce some Youth committee roles and intend on offering the steps for interested parents or athletes (age appropriate) to gain their officiating accreditation.  We will also see changes for some of our age groups this coming season regarding events and we look forward to introducing Tiny Tots back to our club, as well as including the U18 age group for the first time.  Our club will be maneuvering through a new system which sees LANSW and ANSW officially partnered to allow our athletes one simple NSW Athletics structure instead of the previous 2 separate structures.  This has been something that has been in the pipeline for many years but will be implemented this year.  We ask for your patience during the transition process, as it is all new for us as well.

I’d like to wish everyone a fantastic, enjoyable and fun-filled season ahead and urge our athletes to take part on competition nights, gala days and/or Championship events to reach your own goals.
